Gunfire has been reported outside the Dallas Police Department’s headquarters and suspected explosive devices have been found at multiple locations around the city. Gunfire outside the Dallas Police Department’s headquarters, has resulted in a police standoff in which a suspect has been shot by a police sniper.
Several bags, one containing a pipe bomb, were found scattered outside the building in the aftermath and detonated when an explosives robot approached the suspect objects. Witnesses initially said that as many as four suspects were involved in the incident, but police are focussing on one man, James Boulware, who identified himself to police during negotiations. Police do not currently believe that anybody else was involved.
Another package, found beneath a police vehicle parked at headquarters, has also been detonated by authorities. It is not yet clear whether Mr Bouleware was killed, when a police sniper shot him in the chest during an exchange of gunfire with police at a fast food restaurant car park in Hutchins, 10 miles south of Dallas.

It is thought that the gunmen could have fired on police from several different positions, including vantage points close to the building. In total two devices have been detonated by police bomb disposal units. The first outside Dallas Police headquarters and a second found underneath a squad vehicle in the car park.

Negotiations are currently ongoing, with a suspect inside the van at a fast food car park in Hutchins, 10 miles south of Dallas. "We were increasingly concerned for our officers trying to negotiate with him. Our Swat team made the call and I believe it was the correct call to stop his violence."
