A spokesperson from the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools (CCMS) said the school would be closed while a detailed survey is carried out to assess the scale of the problem. But now, a local state-run school and St Joseph's Parish Centre have stepped in to help by offering accommodation.
The CCMS said it hoped pupils would be able to return to school on Monday. From Monday, St Joseph's classes will be held in both its adjacent parish centre and in Greystone Primary School.
But the spokesperson added that this would not be in the St Joseph's building, and an alternative was being arranged. The state-run school is just a few hundred yards away from St Joseph's, which is run by the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools (CCMS).
It is expected that parents and pupils will be informed of those arrangements later on Friday. Families were informed of the temporary arrangements by text message and letters from the school on Friday afternoon.
