The body of a man has been found at a house which caught fire after an apparent explosion. A man's body has been found after a fire at a house in Darlington.
The apparent blast, which started a fire and badly damaged the roof of the property in Darlington, County Durham, was reported at 02:50 BST. The fire blew out the windows of the property on Lewes Road, initially leading to reports that there had been an explosion.
Fire crews found the body of a man, believed to be the occupier, upstairs after entering the house in Lewes Road. Emergency services attended the scene at 02:50 BST and the body was discovered in the upstairs of the house, which had been badly damaged.
Durham Police said it was investigating, but it was too early to speculate about the cause. Police and the fire service are carrying out a joint investigation into the cause of the fire.
