Organisers of T in the Park are taking steps to reduce the traffic problems which affected last year's festival. Hundreds of revellers queued for hours in their vehicles to get into the music event at Balado after heavy rain meant water-logged carparks had to be shut. This summer, a limited number of fans will be allowed into the campsite a day early, on Thursday 10 July. It is hoped that will cut the number of cars on the roads on the Friday, reducing disruption for local people. 'Strong relationship' Festival Director Geoff Ellis said: "Planning for T in the Park is a year-round process and we are always looking for ways in which to improve the event and never rest on our laurels. "We'd like to thank Perth and Kinross Council, the emergency services and the local communities for playing such an integral part in our planning process. "We look forward to continuing this strong relationship in the years to come." Convener of Perth and Kinross Council's licensing committee, Peter Mulheron, said: "The committee has carefully considered this request from T in the Park's organisers, which is part of their plans to ensure smooth running this year, and approved their proposal subject to assurances about site preparations. "I welcome the organisers' commitment to addressing the issues which arose last year. "T in the Park is an important event for Perth and Kinross and the licensing committee will be considering the bulk of the conditions for this year's festival at a later date." Full details of T in the Park 2008 will be announced on Friday. |
