Sudan: Attacks Uproot Thousands
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/11/world/africa/sudan-attacks-uproot-thousands.html Version 0 of 1. Increasing attacks on civilians in the Darfur region have forced tens of thousands of people to flee their homes this year — possibly more than 200,000, a United Nations official said Wednesday. The assistant secretary general for peacekeeping, Edmond Mulet, told the United Nations Security Council that a government military offensive had displaced at least 78,000 people, according to aid organizations, and possibly 130,000 others. Darfur has been in turmoil since 2003. |
