Nottinghamshire Police said her death was caused by hanging and was not being treated as suspicious. Adjourning the inquest, coroner Mairin Casey said hanging was the "most likely" cause of death.
The inquest into Amber's death is due to take place later at Nottingham Coroner's Court, in Old Market Square, Nottingham. Amber left her home in Bosworth Street at about 17:00 BST following an argument an argument with her family on their return from a holiday.
After her disappearance, her parents Danny and Kelly Peat, said they had just returned from a holiday in Cornwall when she went missing following an argument about a household chore. She was reported missing in the early hours of the next morning.
Hundreds of people were involved in the search for Amber, which ended with the discovery of her body on 2 June. The hearing was told an extensive search had involved both police and the public before Amber's body was found at about 19:00 BST on 2 June.
Mr and Mrs Peat said they were touched by the community's "amazing response" following their daughter's disappearance. Police have said there are no suspicious circumstances.
They said in a statement that they would always miss their beautiful daughter. The inquest was adjourned to a later date while further tests are conducted.
