A troubled health board being placed in special measures will not be micro-managed, the health minister has said. The chief executive of a health board placed in special measures has been suspended with immediate effect.
Mark Drakeford is due to give more details later on how Betsi Cadwaladr's NHS services in north Wales will be run following the intervention. Betsi Cadwaladr chairman Peter Higson said the suspension of Trevor Purt was a "neutral act" while arrangements for special measures were sorted out.
It comes after a report found "institutional abuse" at the Tawel Fan mental health ward in Glan Clwyd Hospital, Denbighshire. An interim chief executive will be appointed and a meeting held with the Welsh government in the next few days.
