First official photographs of Princess Charlotte published by royal family
Version 0 of 1. The first official photographs of Princess Charlotte, being held in the arms of her older brother Prince George, has been released by Kensington Palace. The pictures were taken by their mother at the family home, Anmer Hall in Norfolk, just a couple of weeks after giving birth to her daughter at the Lindo wing of St Mary’s hospital. Kensington Palace tweeted one of the four images – showing the prince looking down on his baby sister – saying: “We’re delighted to share the first photo of Prince George with his little sister Princess Charlotte”. The Duchess of Cambridge is a keen amateur photographer and studied photography as part of her history of art degree at St Andrews University. Kensington Palace took the unusual step of announcing the planned posting of the picture in a tweet on Saturday morning. It read: “We’ll be posting a very special photo of Prince George & his little sister Princess Charlotte late tonight. Can’t wait to share it with you!” It was posted later in the day on the palace’s official Twitter and Instagram accounts as a thank you to the hundreds of thousands of new followers the accounts have attracted since the royal birth on 2 May. Several photographs of the array of gifts and notes from wellwishers received in the weeks after the birth of the princess were also uploaded to the sites. A picture of a large stack of letters, many on pink paper, had a post which read: “The Duke & Duchess are very grateful for the wonderful messages they’ve received.” Other pictures that were shared showed a collection of handmade cards and knitted gifts, including a pink crochet bonnet and booties. Those who sent presents were thanked for their “impressive” contributions, with special mention being given to the schoolchildren and Girlguiding groups who sent their wishes. Charlotte will be baptised at St Mary Magdalene church on Sunday 5 July at a private ceremony led by the archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby. |
