Explosion kills one in Damascus

Witnesses in the Syrian capital, Damascus, say an explosion has destroyed a car in a residential neighbourhood, killing a passer-by.

They say police were quickly on the scene to remove the body and vehicle.

Correspondents say state media did not report the blast at the well-to-do Kafar Soussa district, which witnesses attributed to a bomb.

Damascus has seen a number of bomb attacks in recent years, some blamed on Islamic militants and others on Israel.
