American Apparel has been granted a restraining order against its own founder, Dov Charney.

Charney is the subject of a court order that prevents him from making any negative statements about the company to the media or from trying to get board members removed. He was shown the door last year following a string of sexual harassment claims by former employees.

The Delaware court order prevents Charney from breaking a previous agreement. A previous breach of the agreement in May resulted in Charney being sued. His lawyer said he intended to comply.

Charney founded American Apparel in 1998 after borrowing $10,000 from his father. He was replaced by Paula Schneider, a fashion executive, in January.

Schneider has sought to tone down the company’s overtly sexualised advertising, which frequently resulted in bans by the Advertising Standards Agency for sexualising children.

After Paula Schneider's appointment in January, American Apparel reportedly started airbrushing nipples and pubic hair from models In May, Charney brought a $30 million lawsuit against Standard General, the hedge fund that controls American Apparel’s board of directors.

"I gave them my entire life's work and they agreed to put me back in. But, instead, they used this investigation to fire me. They betrayed me," Charney said, following his dismissal.
