Nottinghamshire Police said a formal identification of the remains is yet to take place, but Amber's family have been informed of the discovery. | |
Amber has not been seen since around 5:30pm on Saturday, when she disappeared from her home after what police described as a "minor argument" about household chores. | |
A police spokesman said: "Amber's family has been informed and we ask that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time. | |
"Officers are at the scene in Mansfield and inquiries are on-going. No formal identification has yet taken place." | |
Police thanked all who had helped in the search, particularly the Mansfield community. | |
Before the remains were found, Amber's mother Kelly Peat made an emotional plea at a press conference for her daughter to come home. | |
Breaking down in tears, her mother said: "If you're watching this, or if anybody knows where she is, just send her home. Please." | |
Amber Peat's mother and stepfather, Kelly and Danny, appealed for help finding her Ms Peat described how the family had returned from a "fantastic" holiday in Cornwall, where nothing unusual happened. | |
She added that she realised her daughter had left the house when she heard the front door slam. | |
"I couldn't see her anywhere - she was just gone.” | |
Amber’s stepfather, Danny Peat, told reporters that the teenager’s disappearance was out of character and “doesn’t feel right” as she is "not the kind of girl that would wander off". | |
Amber's two younger sisters have been "in pieces" since their sibling vanished, he said. | |
The family went on to help the volunteers who have been searching for Amber "every night" since she went missing. | |
“It’s overwhelming the amount of people who are out there searching all night, every night,” he said. | |

Superintendent Matt McFarlane said detectives were pursuing all lines of inquiry, including the possibility that Amber may be attempting to visit her biological father in Scotland. | |
She is described as white with long dark brown hair, around 4ft tall and of a petite build with brown eyes and a small scar above her lip. | |
She was last seen wearing a black Puma zip-up top, purple trainers and blue jeans. | |
Missing persons co-ordinator Kirsty Gittings, said: “Amber, if you are reading this appeal please get in touch with us or your parents. They are very worried about you.” | |
