Trouble bruin: bear's all-day city chase by officials ends in snooze under tree

After leading wildlife officials on a daylong chase through a Wyoming city, an exhausted young black bear fell asleep under an aspen tree. State game and fish wardens told the Casper Star-Tribune newspaper that they found the bear sleeping so soundly that it didn’t move when they used a tranquilizer. Wardens captured the bear about 6.45pm on Wednesday after authorities tried several times to corner it in Casper. It was initially spotted at 6.30am. People watched from their back porches as the animal hopped fences, and police blocked off streets to allow wardens to track the animal. Regional wildlife coordinator Justin Binfet says the bear was probably a scared yearling that found itself in an unfamiliar place after being forced out early by its mother. |
