'No radio or phone' on missing Lewis boat Wreckage found in search for missing Lewis boat
(about 1 hour later)
An air and sea search is resuming off Lewis for a small boat which has gone missing with one person on board. Teams searching for a missing man and his homemade boat off Lewis have discovered wreckage, it is understood.
The homemade vessel left Brevig in the Broad Bay at 07:00 on Tuesday. The alarm was raised at 20:00 after it failed to return. A search got underway on Tuesday evening after the skipper was reported missing.
The missing man did not give details of where he intended to go and does not have a radio or mobile phone with him. It was resumed earlier and search teams continue to look for the man and boat.
The coastguard helicopter, the local lifeboat, police and coastguard members have been involved in the search. He had set out from Brevig on Tuesday morning in his three-metre boat.
The missing boat is blue and black, three metres long and has an outboard motor. However, he had not left word as to where he was going.
Anyone who thinks they may have seen the boat or its skipper in the past 24 hours has been asked to call Stornoway Coastguard on 01851 702013.
