Officers said the families of the two were being supported by the force as investigations continue into the crash. An investigation is continuing into the incident, with police appealing for witnesses.
The road was closed until about 09:30 BST on Monday between the B4301 Pontarsais and the A4243 Abergwili, and has now reopened. A force spokesman said: "Police family liaison staff have also been deployed to support both sets of families involved in this tragic incident, and Dyfed-Powys Police would also like to express their condolences to all those affected."
Police have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact the force on its 101 non-emergency line. The A485 road was closed until about 09:30 BST between the B4301 Pontarsais and the A4243 Abergwili.
