MOSCOW — The Ukrainian government’s assertion that the Russian military is fighting in eastern Ukraine was given some credence on Thursday by an independent security monitoring group. At a hospital in Kiev, Ukraine’s capital, diplomats from the group, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, interviewed two men said to be Russian soldiers captured by Ukrainian forces. They published a report saying the pair had confirmed that they were serving in the Russian armed forces at the time of their capture in Ukraine, on May 16. The Russian Defense Ministry denies that the two men, Yevgeny Erofeyev and Aleksandr Aleksandrov, are active duty soldiers. |
