Version 0 of 1.

A 17-year-old boy was the victim of a fatal crash in Brighton in which a car hit a brick wall after a police pursuit, investigators have said.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating the crash in which the youth was killed and four others hurt on Saturday.

The driver, a boy aged 15, was released from hospital and arrested and bailed.

Another boy, 16, is in hospital in a critical condition. Two girls, both 15, had minor injuries and were discharged.

IPCC spokesman David Nicholson said a post-mortem examination on the teenager who died was expected to take place on Monday afternoon.

Until then the victim would not be identified, he added.

Sussex Police said a juvenile from Brighton was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and other road traffic related offences, and bailed until 31 March.

On Saturday, IPCC commissioner Tom Davies said officers in a patrol car saw a Mazda with five young people in it, allegedly being driven erratically.

He said a pursuit began when the officers apparently signalled to the Mazda to stop but it did not respond.

The five young people were all taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

Fire crews said at least two people in the car were thrown out of the vehicle because of the "ferocity" of the crash.

Mr Davies said the IPCC deployed two investigators to the scene of the crash, which happened at about 0100 GMT in Wilson Avenue.
