Passengers escape Atlanta bus seconds before massive level crossing train crash - video

Version 0 of 1. Bus passengers in Atlanta had a narrow escape last week when the vehicle they were travelling on got stuck on a level crossing and was hit by an oncoming train. The incident which happened last Wednesday was caught on the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority vehicle's CCTV, and shows the desperate passengers shouting “train coming" and “let us out” to the bus driver as the train moves closer. In one terrifying clip, attempts to open the door fail, with the speeding train metres away from the trapped vehicle. Despite being able to escape the vehicle seconds before the collision, five of the passengers were injured as a result of the crash. Four passengers ranging from the ages of 19 to 44 had all been released from hospital after suffering minor injuries, while a 65-year-old man was still in hospital over the weekend receiving treatment for serious head and neck injuries. The driver on the bus, Dwayne Magee, 38, was still in his seat when the collision occurred and was sent flying from the driver’s compartment as the train ploughed through the vehicle. According to local media, he had been discharged from the hospital after taking a drug and alcohol test. An investigation into the crash is currently under way. Witnesses say that the bus got stuck on the crossing after another vehicle had stopped in front of it. The driver of the vehicle is currently being sought by police. |
