Legendary blues musician B.B. King passed away on Thursday night at 89 years old.

Mr King recorded 43 studio albums and 16 live albums achieving 15 blues Grammy Awards, more than any other artist. In 1987, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Grammy by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. In 2006, President George W. Bush honoured him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honour.

Mr King’s official website released a statement regarding his passing.

“Mr. King passed peacefully in his sleep at 9:40 pm Pacific time May 14, 2015.”
