'Rare' footage of funnel cloud pair filmed in Somerset
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-somerset-32749899 Version 0 of 1. Footage has been captured of a funnel cloud next to a "daughter vortex" during stormy weather in Somerset. BBC Points West weatherman Ian Fergusson said it was unusual to see a funnel cloud with a second one so close by. The footage was captured near Bridgwater on Thursday. If either of the clouds had touched the ground they would have been classed as a tornado. Funnel clouds are formed when strong storms, often together with thunderstorms, amass where the wind blows in different directions. Mr Fergusson said: "It is fascinating to see the daughter vortex next to the main one - it's quite rare." |
