A man has died after being struck by a train on the railwayline at a station in Bridgend, police have confirmed.

The man was in his late teens or early twenties and his death is not being treated as suspicious, said British Transport Police.

The driver of the 0455 Swansea to Hereford First Great Western service reported the fatality just before 0520 GMT on Saturday.

Rail services were suspended in both directions for an hour and a half.

Pyle Station is still closed but the line between Bridgend and Cardiff reopened.

A statement from British Transport Police said: "The train was travelling through the station at 95mph when it struck and killed a man in his teens or early 20s on the line by platform 2.

"This death is not being treated as suspicious."

'Residual delays'

A spokeswoman for Arriva Trains Wales confirmed the death at Pyle was one of two incidents on the line between Cardiff and Bridgend on Saturday morning.

The second was at Pencoed station and involved an Arriva Wales train.

She added: "The line has now been cleared and there maybe some residual delays following the incidents.

"Arriva are working hard to resume normal service and apologise to fans who may be caught up in the delays."
