Beeston bus stop rapist: Police release new CCTV
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-32720873 Version 0 of 1. Fresh CCTV footage of a man wanted for the rape and attempted murder of a woman in Leeds has been released. The 18-year-old victim was waiting at a bus stop in Beeston Road at about 22:40 GMT on 6 March when she was dragged into a garden, repeatedly hit on the head with a rock and raped. The previously unseen footage shows the suspect walking past Napoleon's casino, in Kirkstall Road, at about 21:10. West Yorkshire Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward. Det Supt Nick Wallen said a series of high-profile appeals had so far failed to lead to the suspect being identified. Appealing to the public he said police had drawn up a list of "five key factors" for people to consider, including where the man might live, work and socialise. He said: "While we have a wealth of professional expertise in the investigation of serious crimes, no-one knows the communities of Leeds better than the people who live and work there and that knowledge could have an important part to play in helping us to find this man." Mr Wallen said the "brazen" nature of the attack "suggests he is someone who will have behaved towards women in this way before and is likely to continue". Several CCTV clips have been released since the attack, including footage showing the suspect walking in Kirkstall, and Cemetery Road, in Beeston, before the attack. In another clip the man, who is thought to be in his early 20s and of Eastern European, Asian or Middle Eastern origin, can be seen following another woman off Wellington Street. On the night of the attack, he was wearing a green Puma hooded top and white trainers. In April a Crimewatch appeal prompted more than 70 calls and police have so far taken DNA swabs from 427 men, eliminating 375 as a result, and visited more than 2,000 homes. |
