Fresh search starts for climber Mountain rescuers discover body

The search for a climber, missing in Torridon for more than two days, is due to resume later. A team of mountain rescuers who were looking for a missing ice climber in Wester Ross have found a body.
Peter Grant, 50, failed to return from a climb near Achnashellach in Wester Ross on Wednesday and his son raised the alarm. The alarm was raised when Peter Grant, 49, failed to return from a climb on Wednesday in the Achnashellach area.
Mountain rescue teams from Torridon and Kintail have been joined by members of the two RAF teams from Kinloss and Leuchars in the search. Northern Constabulary confirmed that at about 1300 GMT on Saturday the remains of a man were discovered near to where Mr Grant went missing.
Rescue dogs and a helicopter from Lossiemouth will also offer assistance. Police said they were not yet identifying the dead man, whose body was taken to Broadford Hospital.
Mr Grant, who is a former member of the Kintail rescue team, is said to be an experienced rock and ice climber with advanced survival skills. At one stage during the three day search, 94 rescuers were involved, including teams from Torridon and Kintail, RAF personnel from Leuchars and Kinloss and rescue dogs.
It is always difficult when these guys go looking for a missing person, but when it is one of your own there is an added poignancy Ch Insp Paul Eddington Mr Grant, who was a former member of the Kintail rescue team, was said to be an experienced rock and ice climber with advanced survival skills.
However, there is concern about his safety because of the high winds and blizzard conditions in the Torridon Range. The search had concentrated on three mountains - Fuar Tholl, Sgorr Ruadh and Beinn Laith Mhor.
A spokesman for the Torridon team said bad weather had initially hampered the helicopter's involvement, but it was eventually able to join the search.

Neil Hinchliff, leader of Torridon Mountain Rescue Team, said dozens of people had been out searching.
"Although he has been missing for quite some time, he is experienced and our fingers are crossed," he said.
Survival skills
Ch Insp Paul Eddington, based in Northern Constabulary's Dingwall HQ, has previously worked alongside Mr Grant on rescue missions.
"He has the survival skills and navigational skills to last in the hills but, obviously, as time goes by then hope does fade," he said.
"There are over 50 people searching for him, which shows the respect held for Pete.
"It is always difficult when these guys go looking for a missing person, but when it is one of your own there is an added poignancy."
