OAP robbed as he prayed in church

An 83-year-old man was robbed of his wallet as he prayed in a church, police have revealed.

The pensioner was praying in St Ninian's Church in Fulton Street, in the Knightswood area of Glasgow, on Thursday afternoon.

He was approached from behind by another man who grabbed him by the neck.

The attacker then searched through his victim's pockets before taking his wallet and escaping.

Strathclyde Police said the elderly man was shaken but otherwise unharmed by the incident

He had been in the church between 1555 and 1620 GMT on Thursday.

'Cowardly attack'

The suspect is described as being aged between 20 and 30 and between 5ft 4in and 5ft 8in in height.

He had a slim build and short dark hair, spoke with an English accent and was wearing dark trousers and a dark jacket.

Det Sgt Sandy Johnston of Drumchapel Police Office said: "This is an appalling crime and a cowardly act.

"We are anxious to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who thinks they may have seen the male responsible entering or leaving the church."
