The England international bowler Kate Cross made history as she took eight wickets in a Lancashire men’s league match. Cross, daughter of the former West Ham striker David, recorded figures of eight for 47 for Heywood in their Central Lancashire League fixture against Unsworth, who were bowled out for 121 and lost by six wickets. This season Cross became the first woman to play in the league in its 123-year history and has helped Heywood to third place in the table. “What an afternoon it’s been for @ECB_cricket’s @katecross16 who’s taken apart the @Unsworth_CC batting order,” read a tweet from Lancashire’s official Twitter account. Speaking last month the Heywood chairman, John Rhodes, said: “Kate playing for the first XI represented a very proud moment for the club. At a time when there is strong focus from the Lancashire Cricket Board and ECB on the development and growth of women’s cricket I am delighted that we continue to play a part in this exciting time for the women’s and girls’ game.” |
