Clive James honoured for his 'incredible talent' at Bafta TV awards

The writer and broadcaster Clive James has been honoured at the Bafta TV awards with a special award in recognition of his “incredible talent”.

James, who was diagnosed with terminal leukaemia five years ago, has continued to work and published his most recent poetry collection this year. The 75-year-old joked in a recent interview that “the end is nigh, but not that nigh”.

There were also be special accolades for the Channel 4 News presenter Jon Snow and the TV producer and writer Jeff Pope at the event at London’s Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.

Bafta’s chief executive, Amanda Berry, said James is an “incredible talent. A warm, witty and knowledgeable presenter whose programmes left a vivid impression on so many viewers, myself included”.

James was shown receiving his award in a broadcast filmed earlier this year.
