Good samaritan hands in envelope full of cash found on the street

Version 0 of 1. A Manchester woman earned enough Brownie points for a lifetime after handing a wad of cash she found on the street to the police. Bank worker Danielle Simmons spotted a £20 note on the pavement in the city centre on Friday, before realising it had come from a nearby envelope stuffed full of notes. The 29-year-old, who was on her way home from work, picked it up and took it home, where she realised it contained hundreds of pounds and quickly rang the police, the Manchester Evening News reported. The envelope has a name written on it, said the MEN, and Ms Simmons hopes it might be a clue in reuniting the cash with its owner. “Someone, somewhere had something planned for this weekend and is now not doing it,” good Samaritan Ms Simmons told the paper. “It could be someone’s rent, someone’s savings, someone’s holiday money,” she said, adding that she had lost possessions in the past and that it was “horrible”. Police are asking anyone who thinks the three-figure sum might be theirs to come forward. It was found on Whitworth Street at the junction with Princess Street. If the money is not claimed within a month, Ms Simmons gets to keep it. “But I want whoever it belongs to, to get it back.” |
