Colombia’s national police force has said authorities recovered a valuable first edition copy of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s masterpiece One Hundred Years of Solitude.

The book was taken last weekend from a locked display case at Bogota’s book fair, which this year honoured the late Nobel prize-winning author.

The police’s official Twitter account said on Friday only that the book had been found. It said details would be released later.

The first edition is just one of 8,000 copies published in 1967 by the Argentine editorial house Sudamericana and a signed copy such as the one stolen in Bogota can command as much as $23,000 online.
