Strong winds in London cause Aston Martin owner's £35,000 car to be crushed under fallen tree

Version 0 of 1. The owner of an £35,000 Aston Martin thought he had been the subject of a vicious prank when colleagues informed him his car had found underneath a fallen tree. But the owner discovered the information was far from fake when he witnessed the scene for himself. The 50ft tree had fallen across the car’s bonnet as it sat parking in a street in Islington at around 3pm on Tuesday, caused by the strong winds experienced across the capital that day that had reached up to 30mph, The Evening Standard reported. The owner of the car, a man in his thirties who wished not to be named, told The Evening Standard that half the team laughed when he got the call about the car, but “then a couple said – ‘No, it could be real – this is serious, go and check it out’.” A Met police spokesman said: “Police were notified of a tree having fallen blocking the road at Elia Street. The tree is thought to have blown down in high winds. “The vehicles were empty when the tree fell. No persons are believed to have been injured as a result of this incident.” A spokesperson for Islington council told the Islington Gazette that it had been a “busy day for the tree team” yesterday because of the high winds. “There were a number of trees and branches down across the borough.” |
