The Scottish National Party has suspended two of its members in connection with disruption at a Scottish Labour rally in the centre of Glasgow.

Piers Doughty-Brown and James Scott were part of a group which confronted Jim Murphy as he campaigned alongside comedian Eddie Izzard in the city.

In scenes which opponents described as “the ugly face of nationalism” the Scottish Labour leader was forced to short his visit amid scuffles and chants of “red Tories out”.

Nicola Sturgeon at the time said the protesters “weren’t acting on behalf of the SNP” and condemned the disruption, calling it "disgraceful".
