Prince records tribute to Baltimore and Freddie Gray

Prince has recorded a song responding to the riots in Baltimore in the wake of the death of Freddie Gray. The singer’s publicist told CNN that the song would be a tribute to the city’s people, and also address social and political issues in the US, particularly the killing of young African American men. Prince has previously referred to the issue quoting the protest slogan “Black Lives Matter” on stage at the Grammy awards in February. No release date has been given for the song, but Prince has revealed the artwork, below. Other musicians responded to the riots that tore through Baltimore after Gray’s funeral on Monday. Rihanna posted a picture on Instagram of a police officer in riot gear, while John Legend tweeted an Atlantic article about the riots.
