Dr Errol Cornish, 67, of Holmbury Park, Bromley, is charged with gross negligence manslaughter following the death of Frances Cappuccini. Mrs Cappuccini died at Tunbridge Wells Hospital in October 2012. Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust has also been charged with corporate manslaughter. The case was committed to Maidstone Crown Court on 22 May. The NHS trust was represented at Sevenoaks Magistrates' Court by chief executive Glenn Douglas. It is the first time an NHS trust has been charged with corporate manslaughter since the introduction of the offence in 2008. The court was told a decision has been made by the Crown Prosecution Service to charge a second doctor, Nadeem Azeez, 52, formerly of Chestnut Avenue, Tunbridge Wells with gross negligence manslaughter. An international warrant has been issued for the arrest of Dr Azeez, who is believed to have left the country and returned to Pakistan. |
