UK snowboarder killed in France

A 40-year-old British man has been killed after falling 80m (260ft) from rocks while snowboarding in the French Alps, the BBC has learned.

The incident happened at the popular Val d'Isere ski resort.

Local police said it happened at 1330 local time (1230 GMT) and the man was boarding alone and off-piste. His identity has not yet been revealed.

Val d'Isere is famous for its long season, high altitude skiing and historic village centre.
