Former cyclist Lance Armstrong admits he owes Wada an apology

Lance Armstrong said on Wednesday that the World Anti-Doping Agency and others are “owed an apology,” but noted the agency’s chief rebuffed efforts to meet with him back in 2013. David Howman, director general of WADA, said this week he was disappointed Armstrong has not apologised for costly lawsuits before the former cycling champion admitted using performance-enhancing drugs. Armstrong initially declined to comment, but later revealed a 2013 email exchange with Howman. It shows Howman initially indicated he could meet, then backed off under advice from Wada’s lawyers. Armstrong says he wanted to discuss which agency could best handle a potential investigation into doping in cycling. Howman told Armstrong that “little, if anything, can be gained from such a meeting”. Howman did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Wednesday. |
