Gwyneth Paltrow has filed for divorce from Chris Martin, the Coldplay frontman. The actor cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the separation.

The couple first announced their split in March 2014, declaring that after 10 years of marriage they would be “consciously uncoupling”. According to the divorce papers, however, the pair had been separated for almost a year before that announcement.

At the time, the couple put out a statement which read: “We have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate. We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been. We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time.”

Paltrow is to seek joint custody of the pair’s two children, Apple and Moses.In other Coldplay news, the band are reportedly working on the follow-up to 2014’s Ghost Stories. A Head Full of Dreams will be the group’s seventh album. The band are currently one of several rumoured to be headlining Glastonbury festival on the Sunday night.
