General Election 2015: Nick Clegg delivers the best - and worst - joke of the campaign

Version 0 of 1. As Ed Miliband begins to revel in his new "sexy" and electable image, Nick Clegg is still struggling to garner support – and laughs. The Lib Dem leader was speaking to reporters at The National Liberal Club in London when he decided to make light of recent allegations regarding Grant Shapps. The Tory party chairman has been accused of editing the Wikipedia pages of his Conservative rivals and allegedly changing his own page to delete embarrassing references to his past. Responding to the story, Mr Clegg said, "Grant Shapps has fervently denied that he does not have the time, apparently, to edit his own Wikipedia entry, and look, I'm prepared to believe him. Watch Nick Clegg attempt stand-up "It just could have been someone else. Michael Green, for instance." Cue one chuckle and complete silence. To soften the blow of a decent joke failing to deliver, Mr Clegg did a mock drum-roll. Mr Clegg was referring to Shapps using the pseudonym Michael Green for his internet business. Earlier this year he was forced to admit he had "screwed up" over his denial that he held a second job posing as Mr Green while also an MP in 2006. Mr Shapps has denied any involvement in editing the pages. |
