'Hitchhiker' robs 74-year-old man

A 74-year-old man has been pushed out of his car and robbed after picking up a hitchhiker in County Down.

The pensioner was driving near Drumee cemetery on the Newcastle Road in Castlewellan, when he picked up a man thumbing a lift.

The hitchhiker said he was going to Maghera and told the driver to turn onto Carrigs Road.

He then forced the victim out and drove away. It happened on Saturday afternoon though details have just been released.

The hitchhiker was in his mid-20s, with dark hair and was wearing a dark coloured jacket.

Police want to speak to anyone who was in the area at about 1230 GMT on Saturday and noticed anything suspicious.
