Doctors charged with manslaughter over death after emergency caesarean
Version 0 of 1. Two doctors have been charged with manslaughter by gross negligence over the death of a woman in Kent, who died after giving birth by emergency caesarean section. Frances Cappuccini, 30, a primary school teacher, died at Pembury hospital in Tunbridge Wells after giving birth on 9 October 2012. Police said Dr Nadeem Azeez, 52, and Dr Errol Cornish, 67, of Bromley, south-east London, have both been charged with gross negligence manslaughter. The Crown Prosecution Service has also authorised a charge of corporate manslaughter against Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, which runs the hospital. It has emerged that an international arrest warrant has been issued for Azeez, formerly of Tunbridge Wells, who is believed to have returned to Pakistan. The case will be first heard at Sevenoaks magistrates’ court on 1 May. A spokeswoman for the trust said there was no comment to make at this stage. |
