Man arrested over Merseyside murders of mother and daughter
Version 0 of 1. A man has been arrested on suspicion of the murders of a mother and her daughter in Merseyside. The suspect was arrested by British transport police at 7.50am on Monday at Euston station, central London, in connection with the deaths of Bernadette Fox, 57, and Sarah Fox, 27. Their bodies were found within hours of each other at separate addresses in Bootle. Detectives hunting for Peter Fox, 26, the son and brother of the victims, said on Sunday that they believed he had travelled south and released CCTV images of him at London stations. The suspect’s arrest came after a report from a member of the public, and followed appeals for information on Fox’s whereabouts. Merseyside police said the suspect was being “brought back to Merseyside”. “A significant amount of work has been carried out throughout the weekend with the Metropolitan police and British transport police and I would like to thank them for their assistance,” said DCI Dave Rooney. Bernadette Fox, whose body was found at 4am on Friday, died of asphyxiation. Her daughter, who had been stabbed repeatedly, was found dead at about 9.15pm on Thursday. The family urged anyone with information about the incident to contact police to help them find justice. In a statement, a family spokesman said: “We are absolutely devastated following the loss of Bernadette and Sarah and are still trying to come to terms with what has happened to them both. “Bernadette, who was a mother of three and grandmother of three, was a very outgoing and lovely person who wouldn’t harm anyone. In fact she only ever had nice things to say about people. She was so caring and would help anyone. “And Sarah was loved by her family and well-liked by her friends and neighbours. She was a fantastic aunty and was a cheeky, bubbly and outgoing person who loved her dog. They will both be greatly missed. “We would ask that people appreciate that this is a sad and tragic time for the family and that we are left alone to grieve in peace whilst we try to understand what has happened.” The properties where the women’s bodies were found on Sunday remain sealed off while forensic investigators carry out searches. |
