Over the past week, the media has descended on venues across the UK as the political parties launched their election manifestos. From the set of a soap opera to an indoor climbing centre, there have been some eye-catching venue choices.

Labour

Labour chose the Old Granada Studios in Manchester to launch their manifesto last week. A number of party frontbenchers, including shadow business secretary Chuka Umunna and deputy party leader Harriet Harman, were pictured outside the set of the Rovers Return pub from the television series Coronation Street.

Conservatives

The Conservatives chose a simple backdrop of a union jack for their manifesto launch in Swindon. Prime Minister David Cameron was joined by his wife Samantha and senior Tory politicians at the event.

Liberal Democrats

The Liberal Democrats went to a nightclub in Battersea in London to launch their plans for the next five years. The BBC's Assistant Political Editor Norman Smith tweeted at the time: "Lib dem manifesto launch appears to be taking place in Uber Hip south London bar. #ClegstaCool"

UKIP

UKIP leader Nigel Farage headed to Thurrock in Essex for his party's launch. The venue was in a key target seat for the party.

SNP

The SNP chose the Edinburgh Climbing Centre - with a backdrop of a massive climbing wall - for its launch. A gift for newspaper caption writers.

Green Party

Natalie Bennett and Caroline Lucas opted to head to hip east London to launch the Green manifesto. There were no paper copies of the document available - in keeping with the party's environmental policies.
