A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering his mother and sister on Merseyside.

The body of Bernadette Fox, 57, of Brookhill Road, Bootle was found on Friday while that of her 27-year-old daughter, Sarah Fox, was discovered on Thursday at a nearby property.

Peter Fox, 26, was arrested by British Transport Police at Euston Station in London at 07.50 BST.

He is being brought back to Merseyside for questioning, police said.

Post-mortem examinations revealed Bernadette died as a result of asphyxiation and Sarah died after suffering multiple stab wounds.

Family 'devastated'

Det Ch Insp Dave Rooney said: "I can confirm that a 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the murders of Bernadette and Sarah Fox and is being brought back to Merseyside.

"A significant amount of work has been carried out throughout the weekend with the Metropolitan Police and British Transport Police and I would like to thank them for their assistance.

"I would also like to thank the media and the public for their support during the weekend, which has helped us enormously."

Police launched a widespread search for Mr Fox shortly after the killings.

A spokesman for the victims' family said they were "devastated" and "still trying to come to terms with what has happened to them both".

Bernadette, a mother of three who also had three grandchildren, was described as "a very outgoing and lovely person who wouldn't harm anyone".

The spokesman said Sarah was "well-liked" and a "fantastic auntie", as well as being a "cheeky, bubbly and outgoing person who loved her dog".
