Lincolnshire Austin 7 Club in rally to prove county is not flat

About 60 cars built before World War Two are taking part in a rally to prove to those in doubt that Lincolnshire is not flat.

The Lincolnshire pre-war Austin 7 club left Hartsholme Country Park, Lincoln, earlier and will finish in Cleethorpes.

Organiser Peter Rowlands said many believe the county is flat but hills in the Wolds can take people by surprise.

The Austin Sevens To The Sea event, which takes in about 110 miles, has been running for 12 years.

Mr Rowlands said Lincolnshire has an unfair reputation for having a lack of hills.

"It's a testing route and that's part of the attraction," he said.

"We've had people who have not been on this before and at the end they say 'I couldn't believe some of those hills in the Wolds, they're so steep.'"

The highest point in Lincolnshire is at 168m (551 feet) above sea level and is located on farmland near Normanby Le Wold.

Those taking part will also visit Wickenby Air Field with a lunch stop at Tealby, before finishing on the Promenade at Cleethorpes at about 15:00.
