Failsworth couple 'died after staircase fall' at home

A man and his partner are believed to have died in a "bizarre" staircase fall at a house in a Greater Manchester town.

Police were called to the house in Ogden Road, Failsworth, at about 10:50 BST on Wednesday.

The bodies of a a 67-year-old man and his 66-year-old partner were found at the bottom of the stairs.

Greater Manchester Police said detectives were satisfied there were no suspicious circumstances.

Following an investigation, including post-mortem examinations, it is believed both fell down the stairs and died as a result of their injuries.

The man is believed to have fallen first, with his partner falling after coming to his aid.

Det Insp Lewis Hughes described the incident as "extremely bizarre".

"Our thoughts are with the couple's family and friends at what is clearly a very upsetting and distressing time for them," he added.
