Man arrested in Birmingham on suspicion of Syria terrorism offences

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of Syria-related terrorism offences.

The suspect was detained by officers from the West Midlands counter-terrorism unit at an address in Billesley, Birmingham, at about 7am on Wednesday.

“The action was pre-planned and intelligence-led. There was no immediate threat to public safety.” said West Midlands police.

The man, from Yardley Wood in Birmingham, was arrested on suspicion of preparing for terrorist acts, contrary to Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
