Experts warn of more bad weather Wintry weather 'set to improve'

Motorists in Scotland are facing treacherous driving conditions after a night of sub-zero temperatures. Scotland was expected to warm up after suffering blizzards and sub-zerotemperatures.
Police are continuing to investigate the death of mother in a car crash in north east on Friday night, on a road affected by snow and ice. Severe weather warnings remained in many parts, but forecasters said the worst was over and emergency services reported no major incidents.
The Met Office issued severe weather warnings for the whole of Scotland, predicting widespread icy roads and heavy snow in some areas. On Friday, the country was whipped by gales and heavy snows which caused astring of accidents and travel chaos.
High winds also caused serious disruption on Friday. A 20-year-old mother was killed in a one-car road crash in the north-east, in conditions poor with snow and ice.
A 21-year-old woman was killed in the one-car road crash at 2135 GMT on the unclassified Fyvie to Rothienorman road. In the Highlands, heavy snows brought travel misery for motorists and therewere numerous reports of lorries and cars becoming stranded in snow drifts.
The 23-year-old male driver and the couple's daughter, who is nearly two years old, escaped injury in the accident. But despite freezing conditions through the night, with temperatures plunging to -9Cin places, forecasters said the country was thawing out on Saturday.
Saturday's forecast is for low temperatures, particularly in higher areas. Rain is expected in most places later. Rising temperatures
Meanwhile, Argyll and Bute Council warned that none of their gritters would be operating over the weekend due to industrial action being taken by members of the Unison and Unite unions. Temperatures rose to around 4C in Glasgow, with rains coming in from the southwest, and -1C in Aviemore.
The area's trunk routes, which are maintained by a commercial contractor, will be unaffected. And despite continued snowfalls in the Highlands and Aberdeenshire, emergencyservices reported no major weather-related accidents.
But they added roads remained icy, and urged motorists to take care.
There were two road closures due to snow in the Highlands, and one in thenorth-east.
The country's bridges - many of which had restrictions in place on Friday dueto high winds - were operating as normal.
Snowfalls were confined to mountainous areas in the north and forecasterspredicted they would peter out in the early hours of Sunday.
Overnight, temperatures were expected to reach about 3C in the west, 1C in the east,and as low as zero in the Highlands.
