Lyndhurst crash: Driver charged over deaths of teenagers

A driver has been charged with causing the deaths of two teenage passengers in the New Forest while under the influence of drink and drugs.

Lily Butterfield-Godwin and Abbey Rogers, both from Lyndhurst and 19, died at the scene in Gosport Lane after the car hit a wall on 13 December.

James Battrick, 21, from Cadnam, has been charged with causing death by careless driving while unfit through drugs and alcohol.

He is due in court on 23 April.

Mr Battrick will appear at Southampton Magistrates' Court to face two counts of causing death by careless driving while unfit through drugs.

He has also been charged with two counts of causing death by careless driving while over the prescribed limit of alcohol.

Mr Battrick and a third passenger were also treated in hospital at the time.
