Version 0 of 1.

A woman has been raped in "an horrific attack" after accepting an offer of a lift home in the early hours of Sunday.

Police said the 33-year-old had been walking along Worsley Road in Salford between 01:00 and 02:00 BST when a man offered her a lift in his car.

She got into the vehicle but was then ordered out of it on Hall Bank.

The woman was raped on the Bridgewater Canal's towpath before her attacker - described as a white man with dark hair and in his late 50s - drove off.

He was of average build and about 5ft 5ins to 5ft 6ins, had dark eyebrows and stubble under his chin.

Det Insp Benjamin Hart said: "This was a horrific attack on a lone woman which has been deeply traumatic for her.

"We have a team of dedicated detectives working on this case who are pursuing numerous lines of inquiry to identify the person responsible. However, we need the support from anyone who was in and around the area at that time to make contact with us.

"If you were around the Hall Bank or Worsley Road area between 00:30 and 02:00, I would like to speak with you regarding what you may have seen or heard."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Greater Manchester Police or Crimestoppers.
