A Medway councillor has been attacked by a dog while campaigning for the Conservative Party.

Jane Chitty was delivering leaflets in Deacon Close, Strood, on Friday when a Staffordshire bull terrier mauled her hand through a letterbox.

She has since undergone a five-hour operation to repair nerve damage to three fingers.

The Conservative councillor holds the portfolio for strategic development and economic growth on Medway Council.
