Version 0 of 1.

A GP who created a false profile on an Asian marriage website has been jailed for 11 years for rape offences against two prospective brides he met.

Anil Tangotra, 53, of The Drive, Ilford, east London, drugged both women before attacking them.

A jury at Snaresbrook Crown Court convicted him of raping and attempting to rape the first victim in April 2006.

He was also found guilty of sexual assault and attempted rape of the second woman in May 2007.

Tangotra denied the charges insisting that any sexual contact was instigated by the women - a teacher and a mature student.

The court heard that following the first attack in 2006 the GP was tried by another jury who acquitted him of one charge of rape and could not reach any verdict on other offences.

He attacked the second victim while he was on bail awaiting retrial for the first case.

I was treated like a call-girl... and left like a zombie Tangotra's first victim

The court heard that both victims realised Tangotra was not the man he led them to believe, but they agreed to have dinner with him before turning him down.

Tangotra, a separated father-of-two, took the women home and drugged their drinks and food before attacking them.

Giving evidence the first victim said: "I was crying... screaming. I was devastated. I was absolutely ruined.

"I was treated like a call-girl... and left like a zombie."

The second victim said: "I remember walking around the room a bit and that is when I collapsed... then there was nothing."

'Seduction, trickery'

Between bouts of unconsciousness when she realised Tangotra was trying to rape her, she managed to fight him off and escape.

Sentencing Tangotra Judge William Kennedy said: "You were... a sexual predator determined to have sexual intercourse with young Indian women by whatever seduction, trickery or force became necessary.

"Had the jury not been sure of your guilt upon the evidence, the reputation of each woman within her community would have been utterly and irrevocably destroyed."

Tangotra, who has been barred from practising for 18 months by the General Medical Council could now be struck off the register.
