Jules Bianchi’s father: the pain of my son’s crash is a daily torture

Six months on from the crash which left Jules Bianchi in a coma, his father has spoken of the “daily torture” the Bianchi family have endured. The driver, who competed last season for Marussia, remains unconscious in hospital after injuries sustained when his car ran into the back of a mobile crane at last October’s Japanese Grand Prix. Speaking to French newspaper Nice-Matin, Philippe Bianchi said: “He is fiercely fighting, as he always did before the accident. Every day, Jules is running a marathon. All of his organs are working without assistance but he remains unconscious. “Our universe collapsed on October 5, 2014. This type of accident hits more than a real death – suffering is relentless; a daily torture.” When asked about the FIA’s investigation into the crash, which concluded that Bianchi “did not slow sufficiently to avoid losing control”, his father replied: “I prefer to focus my energy on Jules.” |
