Man, 73, appears in court over death of mother, 95

A man has appeared in court accused of murder after the body of his 95-year-old mother was found at her home.

A woman believed to be David Powell's mother, Cecilia Powell, was discovered at Doncaster Lane, Penkhull, Stoke-on-Trent, but the body has not been formally identified.

Mr Powell, 73, of Longton Road, Barlaston, appeared before magistrates at Newcastle-under-Lyme earlier.

He will now appear via video-link at Stafford Crown Court on Monday.
